A Commissioner of Oaths in Ontario is authorized by the Provincial Government to take oaths or affirmations in regards to legal documents, court forms, affidavits or statements
Commissioners do not attest or verify that the document being presented to them is genuine, but that the contents of the document have been sworn to by the applicant under Oath.
A Commissioner of Oaths must administer the Oath or Declaration according to the law, which means that you must be physically present before the commissioner. The Commissioner must verify the authenticity of your identification and signature so it is important to bring government issued photo identification with you.
